After the accident at Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant, Japan has to reconsider entire energy mix in order to secure sustainable power supply and accelerate the development of locally available renewable energy, particularly ocean renewable energy utilizing world 6th largest EEZ. Japanese Government has announced the expected energy mix in 2030, where the share of renewable energy is described as 22-24% of total power consumption in Japan, and is encouraging relevant stakeholder, including industry and academia, to develop and commercialize ocean renewable energy sooner. Under the current circumstances where the development of ocean renewable energy, such as tidal, wave and OTEC, are still relatively early stage, a one of important Government measure to accelerate the development of ocean renewable energy is to build ocean renewable energy test site.
Biography: 30 years experiences in the field of worldwide Energy and Chemical project development at Japanese General Trading Company (Nissho Iwai). 8 years experiences for new business development, mainly in the field of renewable energy, at Japanese Shipbuilding Company (Sasebo Heavy Industries). Currently working as an independent consultant for renewable energy and the chief of International Coordination Team of Marine Industry Development Office, Nagasaki Prefectural Government.
