Sabella D10

Sabella’s technology is based on principles of technological simplicity and hardiness, to give it greater reliability and a lower maintenance requirement than more sophisticated competing solutions.

The demonstrator project, supported by ADEME via Investissements d’Avenir , led to the implementation of an industrial scale turbine with a diameter of 10m and a power of 1 MW. The construction of this tidal stream began in June 2012. The blades are made of carbon and are built by CDK Technologies, a shipyard for the construction of offshore racing boats based in Port-la-Forêt, Finistère .

Its immersion was carried out in 2015 in the Passage du Fromveur , between the island of Ouessant and the Molène archipelago, at 55 m depth. It has been connected to the Ouessant ERDF grid, making it the first hydrokinetic grid connected to the electricity grid in France.
